Crossroads of Meltham Road with Stubbin Road and Carrs Road
Meltham Road was part of the first turnpike from Huddersfield to Lancashire over Standedge. It passed Pule Hill on the south side via Old Mount Road, replaced c.1800 by (New) Mount Road. In the early 1820s it was superseded from Huddersfield to Marsden by the present A62, but the A62 on the north side of Pile Hill was not completed until 1839. Meanwhile traffic not visiting Marsden village came along Stubbin Road, crossed Meltham Road and went along Carrs Road to the foot of Mount Road.
