Brook Grain Hill, Rastrick (SE140219)
This is the old part of the lane, still with a surface of stone setts. The modern tarmac lane cuts across the semi-circular curve of this old lane. The steps lead up to Thornhill Road (A643) and the retaining wall was built when the road was widened many years ago.

Castle Terrace, Rastrick
Originally a cul-de-sac off Castle Avenue, but the street has been extended to form a new estate road, yet it has not been given a tarmac surface. Castle Avenue was laid out in the late 19C or early 20C, but apart from this terrace no houses were built on it until the 1930s (?).

Back Castle Terrace, Rastrick
Some terrace houses have through passages at intervals to give access to yards at the rear, but others like this one have a narrow lane behind them.

Castle Terrace, Rastrick
Although it is possible to drive from Close Lea Drive into Castle Terrace, the double row of kerbstones would make it uncomfortable for both car and occupants.
