New 'Good Karma' coffee house, Lawson Road, Brighouse
Just as they were about to open the ban on cafés and restaurants took effect. I shall have to go there for coffee and cake when they eventually open!

New retail unit, Lawson Road, Brighouse
This is on the site of the former police station, although there has been a petrol station here in between. It would make a nice café, except that there are already several little cafés in the town. Update: It is now a coffee bar.

I think this has been here for many years. It is only open for lunch Thursday - Saturday, dinner Wednesday - Saturday and Brunch & Lunch on Sunday.

Currently occupied by Alexander's Bar, a blue plaque marks the significance of this property as the former home of celebrated 19th century local engineer Robert Blakeborough Image This is the rear of the premises, on Lawson Road (formerly Police Street). The frontage is to Bradford Road.

Plaque to Robert Blakeborough in Brighouse
A blue plaque to celebrated 19th century local engineer Robert Blakeborough. See Image for context. The Blakeborough works was founded in 1828, later moved to its permanent premises on River Street on the other side of the Calder, where they became leading suppliers of cast iron valves, inspection chamber covers and other castings for the water and gas industries until loss of trade to cheaper Asian competitors forced closure in 1989. The site is now occupied by the Hallmark Cards factory and other modern industrial premises.
