2020 vision: Day 52
Looking from Oaklands Road across Station Road towards Frenchmans Road- on the corner where the houses stood was a pub, The Volunteer Arms, which was demolished in 1949. Temperature- 5C BBC Radio 4 "Today" programme, first headline 8am: The mother of Grace Millane who was murdered in New Zealand has told her killer she thinks about "the terror and pain she must have experienced at your hand". .

"Edgar's seat"
As a child I used to wander along here and speak to Edgar, my dad's friend. A world champion smoker, he lived (as some of them do) well into his eighties.

New Aldi approaching the final countdown
Built on the old Whitmans Laboratories site in Frenchmans Road, it opens tomorrow at 8am. In other news, as The Two Ronnies would put it: November 1st to 4th 2022, Rishi Sunak announces he will not attend COP27, then U-turns to say he will; 8th November, in the US the much promised red wave became a trickle as the Republicans gained a narrow majority in the House and the Democrats retained the thinnest of majorities in the Senate; 11th the Ukrainians retake the city of Kherson; 13th, 8 dead in Istanbul bombing; 15th, the population of the world reaches 8 billion; November 20th, the FIFA World Cup begins in Qatar; 24th, widespread anti-lockdown protests in China; and 30th, the late Queen's lady-in-waiting Lady Susan Hussey has apologised and resigned after she repeatedly asked a black British charity boss where she was "really" from.
