Hillside House, Puttenham
A grim-looking building that looks quite out of place in this village - so much so that I can only imagine that it was originally the police station - and that the little iron arch over the gateway once carried the traditional blue lamp. The date over the doorway is 1874.

Houses in The Street, Puttenham
These were built in the mid-18C. Note the plat band of brick between the storeys, and the lintels of 'gauged bricks'. These are thin wedge-shaped bricks forming a 'flat arch' whereas the lintels on the end wall are modern copies made from standard bricks. The roof is half-hipped, with fish-scale tiles in the gables. This view is looking westwards. For another photo and more details see http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/search/details.aspx?pid=1&id=288148
