A view from the A3 flyover. The houses on the right are along the A322 Worplesdon Road; the footbridge, from which Image was taken, linking them to Deerbarn Road, is at lower left. The roof in the left background can be seen in Image and belongs to Francis Court, flats on the A322.

Wooden Bridge (3) - sign, Woodbridge Hill, Guildford
This public house is at the bottom of Woodbridge Hill. It would seem that long ago there was a wooden bridge across the nearby River Wey, and the road and much later the pub took their names from this. The picture appears to be what is called an "artist's representation". If there was a wooden bridge over the river, it would have had to be much higher, or moveable, to allow boats to pass under. The river here has been a navigation since 1653. Image Image

Wooden Bridge (1), Woodbridge Hill, Guildford
A very large, popular pub, located at the bottom of Woodbridge Hill, which is some way from the centre of Guildford. Many years ago, early in their careers, the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton played here. Today live entertainment is still a major feature of the pub, along with large television screens for showing sports. Judging by reviews, food here used to be of the cheap and cheerful variety, but the pub has recently been rejuvenated so that may well have changed. The building itself looks as if it could date from 1930's, but maybe a little later. The photograph was taken early in the morning, which is why the car park was empty! Image Image
