Burton Park, Duncton
Looking a little as if it has escaped from Brighton or Cheltenham. It is faced in Roman cement. "Very much a clever young man's building ... determinedly Grecian, with all kinds of ornamental tricks. Unhappily, and perhaps inevitably, a rather heartless building also" was Pevsner's, perhaps harsh, verdict. The clever young man was Henry Bassett, 28 in 1831 ( he didn't shine for long, dying in 1847). Grade I listed. It has been converted into flats. The date of the photo is uncertain.

Burton Park
Grade I listed mansion built in 1828 by architect Henry Bassett. It was a private house until the Second World War, when it was requisitioned by the army. After the war it housed a girls boarding scheme, St Michael's, until the 1980s, before becoming a police dog training centre. In 1997 it was converted into apartments.
