The town bridge is on the site of the "Golden Ford", and it is this Ford to which Guildford owes its name.

Guildford Town Bridge
The site of the original crossing of the River Wey at the bottom of Guildford High Street. Subsequently the main route to the south through Godalming towards Portsmouth. Now just a pedestrian bridge as traffic has been moved. The River Wey continues to flow underneath.

Guildford Town Bridge, Surrey
An early 20th century bridge which replaced an earlier structure. Now used only for pedestrian traffic, but I recall that motor vehicles used this bridge up until c1970.

Town Bridge, Guildford
Spanning the River Wey at the foot of the High Street. The present bridge was built in 1902 but has been renovated. The previous bridge was badly damaged in flooding (1900).
