Bisley Camp
The entrance to the headquarters of the National Rifle Association at Bisley. The National Rifle Association was founded in 1859 and held its first competitions on Wimbledon Common. As that area developed there was increasing pressure to find an alternative site and the last Meeting at Wimbledon was in 1889. Bisley was chosen to replace it largely because there was plenty of open land with the Guards Camp at Pirbright and the large Aldershot garrison nearby. The new ranges there opened in 1890. The camp is now a conservation area and represents something of an Edwardian time-warp.

Pirbright Camp entrance
The entrance to Pirbright Camp, looking west into the camp. Pirbright is now home to one of the four Army Training Regiments: it trains recruits for The Household Cavalry, The Royal Logistic Corps, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Artillery. It was formerly home to the Guards and also the Gurkhas. Until a few years ago it was possible for civilians to drive straight through the camp from Brookwood to Deepcut but with the increased need for security entry to the camp is no longer permitted.

Trackbed of the old Bisley Camp railway
The Bisley Camp branch line closed in 1952. This section of line running parallel to Queens Road, now complete with mature trees, had steep embankments either side which are enjoyed as a stunt cycle track by local children.

Billesden Road, Pirbright
The main road through the Army housing development near the Pirbright Barracks. This road used to be called Brunswick Road when the estate was built but the name was transferred to the new road south of the estate in the 1980s, this road being renamed Billesden Road at the time.
