High Street, Old Woking
Before the railway came and the heathland around the new station was developed into modern Woking, the town of Woking was situated down by the River Wey - what is now called Old Woking. Old Woking High Street is a strange mixture of old cottages together with more modern suburban shops, houses, and light industry. The houses on the right of the picture have one of the several courses of the river running at the bottom of their gardens - except at times of very heavy rainfall when the river runs through their houses instead!
