Farnborough North railway station level crossing
In former times this road went all the way to Frimley Green. Nowadays it peters out just beyond the A331 road bridge about 200 metres ahead. The station and its platforms are to the left.

Level crossing by Farnborough North Railway Station, Farnborough
This is a fully manual level crossing, where you have to open and close the gates on both sides of the railway tracks yourself. However notices warn people with vehicles or animals that they must phone first, to check if there is time to cross before the next train arrives. For pedestrians it is much easier, as there is a warning light. If this is showing green, it is safe to cross, using the separate gates for pedestrians.

Farnborough North railway station
Farnborough North railway station was opened in 1849 by the short-lived Reading, Guildford and Reigate Railway, which was absorbed into the South Eastern Railway in 1852. It became part of the Southern Railway in the grouping of 1923. Immediately to the south of the station (and in the opposite direction to this view) there used to be a junction with a line, known as the Farnborough Curve, that joined the London & South Western Railway's main line to London. Today trains are run by First Great Western on about an hourly basis to Reading in one direction and Guildford in the other, with extra trains at peak times. This photograph was taken from the pedestrian crossing with a green light signalling that it was safe to cross.
