Blackwater Valley trail
The trail that runs the length of the Blackwater Valley. It looks rural but the A331 is about 100 feet to the right and the North Town industrial park is about the same distance to the left.

This is a 7 hectare park is an area landscaped and planted in 1996 by Guildford Borough Council. Features include a large wildlife pond, a wide variety of trees, wild flower planting, seating and picnic facilities.

Mini-landscape, Ash, Surrey
Steel and concrete crash barriers might look ugly to us, but to plants they are another surface to colonise. Here moss and lichen are growing on the end of a safety barrier alongside an access road that crosses the Blackwater Valley Road and is a public footpath.

Blackwater Valley Road, Ash, Surrey
We could do with a few roads like this in Yorkshire, but our valleys are clogged up with buildings, whereas the Blackwater Valley was relatively clear. The road has been built in cutting or with embankments or fences each side so that the lakes and woods in the valley can still be enjoyed. This photo was taken looking northwards from the footbridge accessed from Shawfield Lane.
