Bow Wow sign, South Cerney
Bow Wow is a small thoroughfare that leads east out of the older part of the village towards the A419. How it came by its assonant name is unclear. Bow Wow, a gazebo and the River Churn, South Cerney
The curiously-named thoroughfare is highway at this point although it becomes a footpath and access-only to some isolated properties a few hundred metres to the east. The gazebo is in the grounds of the Old Vicarage. The small river is the Churn, strictly a tributary of the Thames although it could be argued that the Thames is a tributary of the Churn since the former is a lot shorter than the latter measured from the point where they meet in Cricklade. Kingston Upon Churn? Maybe not.

A lane called Bow Wow
The extraordinarily named Bow Wow is one of the most attractive parts of the large village of South Cerney, which is situated in the Cotswolds Water Park. The building on the left is a gazebo, in the grounds of The Old Rectory. Bow Wow, further on, leads into the countryside, crosses the dismantled Swindon - Cirencester railway line and shortly afterwards meets the currently disused Thames & Severn Canal. It then becomes a private road leading to a farm and cottages.
