Forest Green to the Bath Road 1 - Nailsworth, Glos
Today, it's Stagecoach who provide the public transport in Gloucestershire, along with other companies. This shows the junction of the road from Forest Green with the A46. In 1780 this was the Bath to Gloucester route and in 1830 the George Inn was the stopping place for stagecoaches travelling to and from Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Cheltenham and Gloucester. In 1800 the road from Nailsworth to Dursley and Bristol was turnpiked. Also in 1780 another route was created from Nailsworth to the nearby village of Box - the road, known as the 'W' or the 'Nailsworth Ladder' because of its route uphill is still used today. The road opposite to the photographer, on the other side of the roundabout, is the one that will take you there. Time taken 4.28 pm BST (British Summer Time).
