St Mary's Church, Lower Slaughter
Much of this church was re-built in 1867, however, inside the church does retain some 13th century arches between the nave and south aisle.

The village of Lower Slaughter
Lower Slaughter, along with its neighbour Upper Slaughter, is one of the most visited villages in the Cotswolds, perhaps because of its name. Here we are looking across the River Eye (not much more than a stream) towards the church in the distance. As for the name, I am no expert, but it is thought to derive from 'slough', an old word meaning 'wet land'. In the days before streams could be easily controlled, this would have been a very appropriate description of flat, low-lying land such as this.

Houses in Copsehill Road
Lower Slaughter is one of the prettier Cotswold villages and is therefore very much on the tourist trail. In order to get pictures without people in them you have to make an early start.
