Puzzling building in Lansdowne, Bourton-on-the-Water
Now in use as flats, this building has shop-type ground floor windows and a King Edward VII postbox http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4109884 in the side wall. Edward VII reigned from 1901-1910. The building appears to have been built in two halves. The year inscribed in the roundel on the gable on this side is 1884, whereas the year 1911 is inscribed in the roundel on the other gable.
One possible interpretation of this evidence is that the half nearest the camera was built as a shop in 1881, and became a post office in the first decade of the 20th century, when the postbox was installed. The business prospered, leading to the 1911 extension. But that is all mere conjecture...
