The Royal, 54 Horsefair Street
This large pub, with restaurant, re-opened under new management in December 2009, after being closed for many months. It is owned by Enterprise Inns and is in the heart of the old part of Charlton Kings, and opposite St. Mary's Church. The pub has undergone a major renovation, including external redecoration. It could be argued that the exterior was more attractive before this was done, and it seems a shame that the attractive pub sign has been replaced with something more bland. You can judge for yourself by looking at the photo by Terry Jacombs of how it looked in January 2009, when it was closed:- Image Another view of how it is today (March 2010):- Image

The pub reopened in December 2009. The date at the top of the building is 1830, when presumably the building was constructed. Image

The King's Hall
Built as a community hall/youth club the hall was disused and vandalised at one time, but a group of volunteers have taken it over and returned it to use a thriving youth centre.
