Hammond Court in College Lawn is a recent, ugly apartment complex. How was planning permission ever granted for this eyesore which is located in a delightful tree-lined road of graceful Victorian villas. Cheltenham is located at the foot of the Cotswold scarp with the small River Chelt flowing through the town. After the discovery of mineral springs in 1716 Cheltenham became a spa town and many Regency houses and other buildings were erected. The town is home to the renowned Cheltenham Festival, four days of horse jump racing culminating in the Gold Cup, held annually in March at the nearby racecourse.

College Lawn, Cheltenham
The road, which takes its name from the nearby Cheltenham College, had no parking spaces left on this day. At the left are white boards, sight screens in cricketing parlance, used in cricket matches to make it less difficult for batsmen to see the ball. At the right is one of the town's eight Penfold Victorian postboxes.
