Ship Inn - Brimscombe Port
The Thames & Severn Canal opened in 1789 with a large inland port at Brimscombe allowing transfer of cargo from the wider Severn Trow to the narrower Thames Barge that could negotiate the Sapperton Tunnel under the Cotswold hills.

Turn right here for Brimscombe Port & The Mill, Brimscombe
The sign is alongside Brimscombe Hill opposite the entrance to a business park and industrial estate. Other signs show that the right turn also leads to 6-a-side Leagues and Rush Skatepark. The Ship Inn name sign http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4648184 is on the left.

Brimscombe Port

Clearance work above Gough's Orchard Lock
The Thames & Severn Canal above Gough's Orchard lock has been infilled from here through to Brimscombe Port. Tree and undergrowth clearance in the distance are signs that excavation and restoration work are now getting under way in earnest.
