Soap & Suds and Silver Rooms
A nice bit of pre-war architecture from 1931. The date stone is below the clock, which, incidentally, is telling the right time. "The Co-operative Building" is still visible over the door.

Golden ghost - Stroud, Gloucestershire
The Golden Fleece Inn, 9 Nelson Street in Stroud. The list of landlords in this pub starts in 1830 and beer was once brewed on the premises here. In 1903 the inn was owned by Godsells Brewery of Salmon Springs, on the east side of the A46 to the north of Stroud, which itself was taken over by the Stroud Brewery in 1928. The capital letters on the ghost sign here read 'GODSELL & SONS FINE ALES & STOUT(S?)'. To the north of Painswick, just off and to the east of the A46 Cheltenham Road, is the hamlet of Paradise Image where stands the former Adam and Eve Inn. Being in the ownership of Godsells Brewery gave rise to the local ditty 'The Adam and Eve Inn, Paradise, God sells beer'. A little off the subject there is a walk devised some years ago from Purgatory Image in Oxfordshire to Paradise. Source: gloucestershirepubs.co.uk - CAMRA for Golden Fleece information.
