Heading away from the town centre.

Mason & Stokes are a family run firm of funeral directors. They were established in 1853 by Thomas Stokes in the Cotswolds. The son of the founder set up in Cheltenham in the 1920's. The move to Hewlett Road was made in 1987. The only things Tudor about Tudor Lodge, are the name & the mock timber-frame appearance.

The piece, which I believe has been confirmed as a genuine Banksy and which I photographed a few weeks ago http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3944801 was modified by persons unknown on or about the night of 31 July/01 August 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-28599433 It remains to be seen whether or not it can be restored to its original condition. The legality of the actions of both Banksy and the individuals who sprayed the piece could be debated ad infinitum and is already in the Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2014/aug/01/banksy-spies-mural-gchq-vandalised-spray-paint-cheltenham where the suggestion is made that maybe Banksy did it himself.

These houses have been faced with Cotswold Stone in contrast to the side and rear which are plain rendering.

The other side of the roundabout is a shop called Beechwood Electrical, who undertake project management and property maintenance, as well as being electrical contractors. The road to the left of their shop is All Saints Road. The road on the right is the continuation of Hewlett Road. Also leading to this roundabout is Fairview Road on the left, and Leighton Road on the right.

The Fiery Angel has been a pub since at least 1859, when William Smith was recorded as Landlord. It was originally the New Inn, and remained that for many years. Possibly that name was given, because around the corner in Duke Street, was another pub, called The Duke's Head. That was certainly in business by 1841, but seems to have closed sometime during or just before the Second World War. For a few years the New Inn became the Pump and Optic, before becoming the Fiery Angel. Image Image Image Image
