This provides access to the Cotswold scarp at High Brotheridge, Brockworth Wood and Cooper's Hill. Some timber has clearly been taken from the extensive woodland hereabout.

Hazel and beech
The hazel catkins are beginning to stretch and turn lemon-yellow. Beech saplings often keep their desiccated leaves all winter as here. See close-up, Image

Hazel catkins, Corylus avellana
These are the male flowers and at this point at the end of a (so far) mild winter are beginning to elongate before releasing pollen to the wind. The bronze background is of beech leaves which often stay in place over winter in young saplings in relatively sheltered spots. See Image for the plants in juxtaposition by the road at Buckholt.
