The Pilot Inn at Sellars Bridge
Sellars bridge crosses the Gloucester and Sharpness canal between Quedgeley on the southern edge of Gloucester to the villages that lie between the River Severn and the canal.

Boat on Gloucester & Sharpness Ship Canal
Although it was February, there were quite a few boats moving on the canal. At this point the towpath is on the opposite bank. Photographed from the garden of the Pilot Inn.

Pilot dog
This yellow labrador's task was not to work on the boats on the nearby canal, but to guard the Pilot Inn, which is next to Sellars Bridge. This he was doing very effectively, when I popped in for a pint on a cold February day, almost seven years ago. Hopefully he is now enjoying his retirement, or maybe sleeping peacefully in the great kennel in the sky.

Sellars Bridge, Gloucester & Sharpness Ship Canal
This boat will have no difficulty passing under the bridge. The canal can take much larger vessels, and the bridge can be moved aside to allow them to pass. When that happens, the red and white barriers are lowered to warn people not to proceed further.
