Newent Circle Club
The club is located in Broad Street near the Culver Street junction.
The club traces its origins to 1919, when the Comrades Club was established here by ex-servicemen who had fought in the Great War (later known as the First World War). No licence had been granted, so nothing stronger than tea was served until 1923, when the club was granted certification for wines and spirits. The name was later changed to Newent Circle Club because of dwindling membership caused by the widespread mistaken belief that only ex-servicemen could join.
