Birthplace of a hero, Clearwell
The plaque on the wall shows that this is the birthplace of Private Francis George Miles VC (1896-1961) of the Gloucester Regiment. He was awarded the VC during the First World War. The VC (Victoria Cross) is the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
