Severn Way crosses former railway line
The Severn Way crosses this bridge on its way through Sharpness Docks. The bridge used to provide passage over the Severn & Wye Railway. The building was subject at the time for a planning application to convert its usage from a nursing home to offices and to replace the original wooden windows with UPVC.

Sharpness Railway Station
The line to Sharpness from the junction at Berkeley Road opened in 1876 but the original station was 400 yards short of this point. The station shown here was opened in 1879 when the line was extended across the Severn Bridge to Lydney. The service between Sharpness & Lydney suddenly ceased in October 1960 when a pier & 2 spans of the bridge were demolished when hit by a pair of tanker barges attempting to enter Sharpness Docks in thick fog. The truncated passenger service between Berkeley Road & Sharpness continued until 1964 November. The line through the station was retained as a siding until 1969 while the bridge was dismantled. The station building was subsequently demolished.
