This is a sort of ghost sign on the corner, but no longer showing a trace of writing. The archway on the further building, the Old Swan, carries a ghost sign for Cheltenham Ales

The Old Swan
This house was a public one. It started life under the control of Arnold, Perrett & Co. Ltd. That company was founded originally as Thomas Arnold, a Gloucestershire brewer in 1800. After merging with H. & A. Perrett’s Bournstream Brewery of Wotton-under-Edge in 1887 the firm later merged again in 1924 with the Cheltenham Original Brewery Co. Ltd. You can still make out the painted, faded sign above the arched entrance. The pub eventually stopped pulling pints in 1968 and the building converted to residential use.

A bitter end
The old White Hart was a coaching inn in the day. It also functioned as a court house in the mid-1800s but is now a tea shop. During its time as a brewhouse, a man sadly fell into a large vat of boiling water and was killed in 1885.
