Rebridging the Severn - Gloucester, Gloucestershire
This east-facing view shows a stage in the rebuilding of the northern, inbound, section of the Westgate Bridge, Gloucester. For many years, centuries in fact, Gloucester has been the lowest convenient crossing of the River Severn. Tramp writer Jim Phelan enjoyed spending time at Telford's now-superseded bridge at Over, just watching the world go by as he related in Tramping The Toby, coincidentally within sight of where this Geographer lived for 17 years. Time photo taken not available.
