Classic colour scheme
College Street was widened in 1890 from the original width of 10' 9". The buildings on the eastern side were replaced with new ones at a cost of £10,000. No mention of the western side where this traditional building displays a fresh coat of paint.

King Edward's Gate
Now only the west turret and spiral staircase of this gateway survive. In 1327 this gateway witnessed the end of a journey perhaps unique in the life of the monastery, for the Abbot had sent an escort to bring back to the Cathedral the body of Edward II, who was murdered in Berkeley Castle. Edward I, his father built the gateway, and his father Henry III was crowned in Gloucester Cathedral.

College Street north-east - Gloucester, Gloucestershire
A view north-east along College Street in Gloucester to the Cathedral, taken from Westgate Street. I spent 17 years here in the City, living in Westend Terrace, some of the happiest years of my life. Neglect of my own welfare and direction over the years means that, sadly, I may never have the pleasure of returning. Don't (do not) make the same mistake. Time photo taken 5.36 pm BST (British Summer Time).
