LMS 4F 0-6-0 on Down express at Haresfield
View northward, towards Gloucester: ex- Midland Birmingham - Bristol main line. A picture taken in the pouring rain, probably from the little wayside station at Haresfield (closed in 1965), eschewed by the GWR that pass on the right. On peak Summer Saturdays 4F 0-6-0s were pressed into express services in the early 1950s: here it is a stalwart on this line, No. 44523 (built 1928 , withdrawn 7/63) working the 09.40 Sheffield Midland - Bournemouth West.

Down 'Pines Express' passing Haresfield station
View northward, towards Gloucester and the North on the ex-Midland Birmingham - Bristol main line, with the ex-GW main line passing on the right - eschewing the station: the signals for the - Up - GW line seen at Danger include the Distants for Standish Junction Box. This was in the penultimate year for this famous express to run via Bath (Green Park) over the S&D route from Manchester (London Road, then Piccadilly) dep. 10.15/10.20(Sat.), via Crewe and Birmingham New Street, due at Bournemouth West 17.32/18.10 (Sat.). This was also in the brief period when the BR 9F 2-10-0s famously found a new use on express passenger work, here No. 92151 (built 11/57, withdrawn 4/67). Haresfield station was closed on 4/1/65.

A view from the public foot crossing of a Voyager passenger train heading from Bristol towards Cheltenham. The points leading to the freight loop can be seen on the left. This is the main Birmingham to Bristol line and not far south is the junction at Standish where the line to Swindon branches off.
