HMNB Clyde, Gare Loch
Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Clyde (Faslane) is best known as the home of the UK's strategic nuclear deterrent, the fleet of nuclear submarines armed with Trident missiles. The base occupies a large site on eastern shore at the northern end of Gare Loch. The loch was the site of a major naval base during World War II and was used to store decommissioned naval vessels in the 1950s. A shipbreakers yard ceased trading in the 1980s and has been absorbed into the naval base (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gare_Loch Wikipedia). This view is from the parking area above the loch, on Glen Fruin Road Image
