Gartloch Village
Once a mental hospital which served the city of Glasgow for over a hundred years, from 1889 until its closure in 1996, Gartloch Hospital is being redeveloped into a series of luxury flats, as can be seen in the building to the left of the image.

Former Gartloch Mental Hospital
When the hospital opened in 1896 it had a bed complement of 540, this rose to a peak of 830 in 1904 but had decreased to 530 by 1909. Although primarily a psychiatric hospital, Gartloch operated a 50 bed tuberculosis sanatorium from 1902 which closed after World War II. Gartloch Hospital closed on its centenary in 1996. The Grade A listed building is now being converted into flats.
