Rutherglen to Coatbridge railway
At Burntbroom. The dismantled bridge in the photo carried the Shettleston to Bothwell railway of the NBR. The contributor just about remembers steam trains running along it. The visible bridge (No.9) beyond was a spur from the aforementioned Shettleston to Bothwell branch of the NBR that served the Barrachnie Colliery from 1913 to 1937.

Barrachnie, David Place
Built in the late 1960s. Named after David Jaeger, a county councillor who represented the district. The area is commonly called Burntbroom but in fact Burntbroom is to the south and although in a 'legalese' sense it should be called East Mount Vernon as it was part of that old estate I have labelled it Barrachnie as it is just across the road from the old village.

The Daldowie Doocot
This doocot (the pigeonholes can be seen just under the roof) was built on the Daldowie Estate in about 1745, by a wealthy merchant named Bogle, to complement his recently-built country house. The doocot stands 12.4 metres high, and has a diameter of 6.2 metres. By June of 1999, the building stood in the corner of a sewage works; it had been vandalised, and was in very poor condition: see Image, an earlier picture showing it in that location. By June of 2000, the building had painstakingly been dismantled, moved one kilometre to its present site, and restored; it is now located on a much more accessible site, close to Mount Vernon railway station (the railway line runs across the background of the photo).
