Pudding (or puddling) in the basin
In 1826 the Monkland & Kirkintilloch Railway was opened to bring coal from pits south of Airdrie to the Forth & Clyde Canal for onward shipment by barge into Glasgow. A large interchange basin or dock was dug on the south side of the canal at Kirkintilloch and its quays served plentifully with railway tracks and tipping machinery. In 1966, by which time the canal was virtually disused, the railway line to the basin was closed and about the same time the basin was completely filled in. More recently it has been dug out again to form a marina, with offices where once railway wagons were shunted. This view, taken from the canal's north-side towpath, shows an early stage of the restoration, with the stonework of the original basin entrance poking through the mud.

Craft Daft on a Raft
Craft Daft on a Raft is a floating ceramic painting and craft studio, at Southbank Marina on the Forth & Clyde Canal at Kirkintilloch. They were previously based at Glasgow Bridge, further along the canal. Due to Coronavirus (Covid-19) restrictions, they are currently only permitted to have a total of 12 customers on board at one time, so they are also using a gazebo beside the boat.

Southbank Marina
Boats moored in the Southbank Marina on the Forth and Clyde Canal in Kirkintilloch. The buildings overlooking the water are part of East Dunbartonshire Council's headquarters.
The marina was part of a £12 million project to transform Southbank into a new business and leisure park. It has been built where originally there were two basins, which were at the terminus of the Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway, which transported coal to the canal from Lanarkshire. It was also later the location of one of two boat-yards in Kirkintilloch (see Canmore https://canmore.org.uk/site/168466/forth-and-clyde-canal-kirkintilloch-dockyard).
