Inveraray Vs Inverary
The local council found themselves nonplussed by street-naming when this street of houses was built in 1960. All streets in this vicinity were named after British castles, and this location, Inveraray Drive bore the proud name of the famous castle located in Argyll. Or did it? A secretary at the planning meeting is said to have not known how Inveraray was spelt, and made up her own version - Inverary... and the street name appeared showing the error. Despite the council having been made aware of the problem, when they DID arrange for the street signs to be amended, there were signatures to a petition demanding the incorrect name be restored!
