Clachan Oak, Balfron
According to tradition, it was here where William Wallace rested and Rob Roy hid. With a girth of some 16ft, the ancient hollow trunk has, in days gone by, been reinforced with 3 strong iron bands. In past centuries, criminals were placed in neck-irons and chained to the tree. When struck by lightning in the 19th century, the Clachan Oak was then believed to be over 300 years old.

Drinking fountain
Standing beside the A875 close to the driveway into Balfron Parish Church. It dates from 1892 and bears the inscription:
This fountain
TOGETHER WITH A MEMORIAL HEADSTONE
HAS BEEN ERECTED IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE
OF THE LATE WILLIAM McCANDLISH F.R.C.S.
BY 262 CONTRIBUTORIES TO WHOM AND THE
PUBLIC GENERALLY IN THE EXERCISE OF
HIS MEDICAL SERVICES HE ENDEARED
HIMSELF AS A PERSONAL FRIEND.
HE DIED AFTER A RESIDENCE OF 17 YEARS
IN THIS PARISH, UPON THE 12th DAY OF
APRIL 1892, AGED 48 YEARS
