Mount Florida street scene
Cathcart Road runs across the bottom of the picture. The tenement block with shops is actually on Carmunnock Road, which meets Cathcart Road at the far left. Hampden stadium lies behind the tenements.

Glasgow's Finest
While I was taking some pictures on Cathcart Road in Glasgow near Hampden Park I spotted this fine group of mounted police. What I hadn't realised was that not only was there a game on at the park, it was the Scottish League Cup Final and 50,000 fans were about to be making their way home after the match. You can clearly see the need for the Strathclyde Mounted Branch on these big occasions to manage the crowds. http://www.strathclyde.police.uk/index.asp?locID=166&docID=-1

A junior tournament
On Queens Park (Lesser Hampden) a Junior Tournament is about to start between at least four teams that I could see. This is all happening after the 5 year olds have had their session and before the first team play in Scottish Division 2 in the afternoon, though they are playing away. A very busy ground.

No Waiting on Cathcart Road
The nearby League Cup Final at Hampden Park means all streets in the area have restricted parking and an increased police presence on the sunday afternoon to manage the crowd of nearly 50,000 football fans.

Lesser Hampden
The grounds of Queens Park Football Club. They are the only fully amateur club in the Scottish Professional leagues. Their ground is Lesser Hampden and has a small stand with about 300 seats which sits next to the national stadium Hampden Park. The amateur status is reflected by its Latin motto, 'Ludere Causa Ludendi' – 'To Play for the Sake of Playing'. It is said that the white building just behind the stand in the image is the oldest building in any football league in the UK to be still be in use by a football club.

Cathcart Road, Glasgow
View down Cathcart Road on a quiet Sunday afternoon, the peace soon to be broken when nearly 50,000 football fans make their way home from the nearby Hampden Park after watching the Scottish Communities League Cup - Kilmarnock won (1-0) for the first time in their history and ended Celtic's hopes of winning the domestic treble.
