Not an empty seat in the house!
Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 and Hampden Park has been transformed from a football stadium seating 52,000 to an athletics stadium seating 44,000. This has been done by raising the floor level by 1.9 metres on stilts to accommodate the running track and associated areas, thus losing the lower rows of seating.
It's worth remembering that before the days of all seated stadia, at the Scotland v England football match 17th April 1937 in this stadium, there were officially 149,415 spectators. There may have been even more, considering there were a lot of people in the stadium without tickets. This is the largest ever attendance in a UK stadium.
