The Molendinar Burn
The Molendinar Burn rises in Frankfield Loch and flows into Hogganfield Loch and from there to the River Clyde, running mostly underground in tunnels and culverts. This short exposed section is visible between the former Great Eastern Hotel and the former Alexanders Public School on Duke Street.

Former Great Eastern Hotel
This great edifice conjours up pictures of Victorian ladies in long frocks and top-hatted gentlemen arriving by Hackney cab from the nearby High Street railway station, having just arrived by steam hauled train on the East Coast line via Bewrick on Tweed and Edinburgh. In reality, it is a former cotton mill which was converted to a doss house for men in 1907 and remained as such until it closed in 2001. It now appears to be safe in the hands of developers after several years of uncertainty regarding its future due to the unusual concrete and wrought iron construction of the building.
