Bridgeton Library at the Olympia
The former Olympia Variety Theatre is now home to Bridgeton Library, which along with books, computing facilities and displays relating to the building's history houses the BFI Mediatheque. A leaflet available on-site tells us that the Mediatheque's collection has "the best, the rarest and the most extraordinary films and TV programmes from the BFI National Archive", free to watch when you log-in to your personal viewing station - everything from Victorian news stories and literary favourites such as 'Dracula' and '1984' through to black and white TV children's favourites like 'Muffin the Mule', to more-modern classics like 'Local Hero' and 'Shallow Grave', as well as comedy series including 'Rab C Nesbitt' and 'Absolutely'..... over 2,000 titles in total. Wow!

On the right is the Category B listed Olympia [http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB33642]. It originally opened in 1911 as the Olympia Theatre of Varieties and was later a cinema, then bingo hall, and finally a furniture warehouse. The majority of the building has since been demolished, with only the façade and corner of the original building retained. Behind that is space for mixed local community use of a public learning space, a centre of boxing excellence and 10,000 square feet of office space. The block of tenements and shops were the former Bridgeton Cross Station, built by the North British Railway in 1872, and are also Category B listed [http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB33853].
