Dalbeth Cemetery, Polish Section
This restful avenue is one of four in this special section of Dalbeth. It was created in the late 40's as a last resting place for Polish ex-servicemen (and their families) who had made their homes in the west of Scotland after fighting against Germany and their rejection of the Communist state subsequently imposed on their country (and most of eastern Europe) after WW2. A larger stone memorial to the ex-combatants is obscured by the tree on the left (east).

Dalbeth Cemetery, Polish Section
This is just one of the many typical gravestones within the Polish section at Dalbeth. It may seem unusual to have different family names on the same lair, however the mother and son actually have the SAME surname, but there is a male and female variant. Any male Polish surname ending in 'I', has a female equivalent ending in 'A'. So whilst the wife still takes her husband's surname on marriage, she uses the female equivalent. This means it is always possible to tell the gender of the person you may be contacting, whether the prefix of Mr, Ms, Miss or Mrs is known or not!

Wasteland at Auchenshuggle
This area became a famous name as it was a terminus for Glasgow's trams. The area itself is actually only waste ground and a wood, however.

Glasgow tram 1293 at Auchenshuggle
Taken just before withdrawal of trams in September 1962, this shows the next tram approaching in the background, the crossover junction from the outbound line to the inbound line, and the position of the tracks in the centre of the road, set in stone paving which made for easier maintenance.
