Watching the trains go by
In the course of taking a few snaps from a train on the way to Blackpool, I happened to catch this lad sitting on a fence at a pedestrian crossing of the railway. Scenes like this are timeless (apart from changing fashions).

Ansdell & Fairhaven railway station
The original Ansdell station was 300 metres closer to Lytham, behind the photographer. The current station was opened by the Preston & Wyre Joint Railway in 1903 to replace it (although the original site was used for goods until the 1960s). This view is north west towards Blackpool South (and until 1964, Blackpool Central). It used to be an island platform with trains calling at both sides, with an outer pair of tracks for non-stop trains.

Looking in this direction, the line goes to Blackpool South Railway Station, where it terminates. Years ago, the line was very busy and was double track.
