Fleetwood Lighthouses
These are two of Fleetwood's three lighthouses, both built in 1840. The Lower (Beach) Lighthouse is 30 feet above the watermark and is visible for 9 miles, while the Upper (Pharos) Lighthouse, 90 feet above the high water mark, is visible for 13 miles. What is left of the third lighthouse, the Wyre Light, rests on piles sunk into the sea bed of North Wharf, a sandbank stretching up to Morecambe Bay.

Replacement tramcar?
Unfortunately this is not the shape of things to come - a modern low-floor double-deck tram. This is simply an optical illusion; the pantograph belongs to the tram hidden behind the bus! From November 2009, bus service 1 will be the only through link between Fleetwood and Starr Gate until at least Easter 2012.

Trams only
So what's the bus doing there? The answer is that there is a 'buses only' access to the left of the post at the left!

Balloon Car in Pharos Place
Balloon Car number 717 is standing in Pharos Place, near to the lighthouse. It is still carrying the traditional green and cream Blackpool Corporation livery. The tram was built for Blackpool Corporation Transport by English Electric in 1935 and was restored in 2008. The balloon cars were considered very modern trams in their day.
