Blackpool tram 642 in Pharos Street
This "Centenary class" tram dates from the 1980's, and was one of eight new one person operated trams built for the system, using many bus parts to reduce costs. Here it is leaving Pharos Street to turn left into North Albert Street. The blue livery is advertising a well known cigarette with the slogan "It's the blue you're looking for". It also has an official health warning similar to those used on cigarette packets of the day. Today this advertising would not be permitted but the tram itself is still in use, but the ends have been altered in appearance.

Pharos Lighthouse, Fleetwood
Pharos Lighthouse (Upper Light) is the second of Fleetwood's onshore lighthouses designed by Decimus Burton. Also built in 1840 of sandstone but more slender and over twice the height of the Lower Light. When the Upper Lighthouse is seen directly above the Lower Lighthouse by an approaching ship, the captain knows that it is safely in the channel. Originally one of three lighthouses, the third the Wyre Light, designed by blind engineer Alexander Mitchell is set 2 miles off the coast. Unfortunately it was decommissioned in 1979 and has been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair.

Pharos Street, Fleetwood, Lancashire
Not many places have a lighthouse in the middle of the street. To have a lighthouse on a street where trams operate must make this view unique. The tram is destined for Blackpool Starr Gate, an eleven-mile run.
