Mainstay of the service
In 1960, the basic Blackpool to Fleetwood service was in the hands of the comfortable 'Coronation' cars, dating from 1953. They had excellent acceleration, but with four motors per car and an advanced control system, they proved expensive in terms of maintenance. Later in their lives, they were modified with a simpler system and all were withdrawn by the 1990s. No 308 is seen here at Anchorsholme near Cleveleys.

On the reserved track at Anchorsholme
The success of the Blackpool to Fleetwood line has been that, north of Cabin, it runs on its own reserved track so is not impeded by motor vehicles. Pantograph car No 170 is seen here on what is, in effect, an electric railway.

Modified Brush Railcoach at Anchorsholme
This car, No 288, has had its double indicators replaced by a single forward-facing box, thereby (IMHO) ruining its appearance.

The size of a Balloon
'Balloon' double-decker, seen here at Anchorsholme, is one of those built as seen here, with an enclosed top deck. These were very large cars, but their size was further accentuated by the use, at that time, of a large amount of cream in the livery. (They had looked much better in the green livery used earlier). When I first knew the Blackpool tramway, as a boy in the wartime years, double-deck cars were not allowed north of Little Bispham, but when check rail was added in the 1950s they began to work through to Fleetwood, at first only on Tuesdays to help out with the crowds visiting Fleetwood Market.
