Squires Gate Lane shops
A parade of shops with maisonettes over. The 'first shops in Blackpool' as the borough boundary runs along the middle of this road.

Starr Gate shops
Currently comprising a hairdresser, cafe and bookmaker. The white tiling suggests a date roughly contemporary with the nearby railway station (1931, station buildings now demolished). The apartments to the left are obviously more recent.

A busy road junction on the edge of Blackpool Borough; straight ahead is Squires Gate Lane leading to Squires Gate station and Blackpool Airport, to the left Starr Gate which becomes Blackpool Promenade and to the right Clifton Drive for Lytham St Annes.

Blackpool: New trams now in service
On Wednesday 4 April 2012, the Blackpool to Fleetwood tramway reopened throughout after complete modernisation, including the purchase of 16 new 'Flexity' trams, built by Bombardier. One of the new cars, No 007, is seen here at Starr Gate.

Starr Gate
The tram terminus at Starr Gate. A tram has just arrived from Fleetwood and is waiting for the points to change before pulling into the tram stop where eager passengers are waiting. The new trams had only begun operating the week previous.
