The Big One, Blackpool Pleasure Beach

An alternative form of transport
Instead of a taxi, tram or bus, why not hire one of Blackpool's horse landaus for your trip from the Pleasure Beach to the town centre? There is something magically relaxing about the gentle clip-clop of your one horse-power engine as you float along on a nice summer's day.

Swivelling wind shelter
One of originally three swivelling wind shelters by Ian McChesney with Atelier One installed as part of the Great Promenade Show. Only two now remain.
The 8m high, stainless steel shelters turn like weather vanes, keeping their occupants away from the prevailing wind. Designed by architect Ian McChesney, in collaboration with engineers Atelier One, the graceful sculptural form of the shelters, shaped like whales' flukes, is structured like an aircraft wing, vibrating in strong gusts of wind.
