Falklands Conflict memorial stone
From the Blackpool 'Gazette', 24/04/2008: "A LIVING reminder to the sacrifices Fylde soldiers have made in conflicts around the world is today taking root. Schoolchildren have planted 20 English oak trees in the resort's Stanley Park – one tree for each conflict since the Second World War. Each tree is being linked to a local school and also represents a conflict – from Palestine all the way through to Iraq. Pupils from Stanley Primary School, who won a national competition launched by the Ministry of Defence to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Falklands War, went to the park to unveil a memorial plaque by their tree. Veterans and local councillors also attended. After their success in the competition, the school was invited to be associated with the tree representing the Falklands."
