Commemorative oak trees, Stanley Park

Falklands Conflict memorial stone
From the Blackpool 'Gazette', 24/04/2008:
"A LIVING reminder to the sacrifices Fylde soldiers have made in conflicts around the world is today taking root.
Schoolchildren have planted 20 English oak trees in the resort's Stanley Park – one tree for each conflict since the Second World War.
Each tree is being linked to a local school and also represents a conflict – from Palestine all the way through to Iraq.
Pupils from Stanley Primary School, who won a national competition launched by the Ministry of Defence to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Falklands War, went to the park to unveil a memorial plaque by their tree. Veterans and local councillors also attended.
After their success in the competition, the school was invited to be associated with the tree representing the Falklands."

Blackpool Cricket Ground, Stanley Park
The cricket ground was already in place, and known as the Whitegate Park, before the development of Stanley Park. Although Whitegate Park had encompassed a horse racing track, football field and cricket ground the other sports were no longer hosted by the early 1920s and it was decided the site would be dedicated to the Blackpool Cricket Club. Due to being within the boundary, it was renamed Stanley Park in 1925. The cricket ground is also used by Lancashire for County Cricket.
