Looking down on Blackpool from the Tower c.1952 (3)
In 1964 the former Blackpool Central Railway Station (top centre) was not the station chosen for closure by Beeching, who instead had proposed the closure of the North station. With an eye on its future development potential, Blackpool Corporation successfully lobbied British Railways for the alternative closure of Central station, which occurred on 2 Nov 1964. Today the site has been converted into several car parks, and the Coral Island amusements complex. A view by Lewis Clarke of the site in 2014: https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4205951 Image
